Tinubu approves 67 new higher institutions: President Bola Tinubu has been commended by the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, for the approval of “22 new universities, 33 new polytechnics and monotechnics, and 12 new colleges of education across the country between late 2024 and 2025.”
The sanction of the 67 new higher institutions, as per Oloyede, “demonstrated Tinubu’s commitment to expanding access to tertiary education.”
The JAMB registrar participated in an interactive session with the principal officers of the recently approved, upgraded, and newly established tertiary institutions in Abuja, as indicated in a statement released on Monday.

Oloyede sternly warned the institutions against conducting illegal admissions, stressing that there will be no space for regularisation of such entries, emphasing that all admissions must go through the Central Admissions Processing System and adhere strictly to due process. The Need to Participate in the CAPs
The registrar directed over 80 institutions recently approved by the Federal Government—including universities, polytechnics, monotechnics, and colleges of education—to comply entirely with the standardized admission procedures.
He explained that CAPS, introduced in 2017, automates and streamlines admission processes, while the Integrated Brochure and Syllabus System), launched in 2018, enhances communication and ensures unambiguous eligibility checks for academic programmes.
Both platforms, now enhanced with institutional mail services, are JAMB’s sole official communication channels with institutions.
Oloyede, however, clarified that only academic programmes certified by the National Universities Commission, National Board for Technical Education, and the National Commission for Colleges of Education would be activated on the JAMB platforms.
