FG approves degree for colleges of education: The nation’s federal institutions of education are authorized by the federal government to offer bachelor’s degree programs.
This comes after the Federal Colleges of Education Act, 2023, was passed and the Dual Mandate Policy was applied to all Federal Colleges of Education.
The Act, which was signed into law by President Bola Tinubu, gives FCOEs the authority to simultaneously issue the Nigeria Certificate in Education and Bachelor’s Degrees in Education, according to a statement released Friday by Folasade Boriowo, Director of Press for the Federal Ministry of Education. FCOE management and staff unions
According to Alausa, the Ministry of Education discussed the implementation process in strategic meetings with FCOE management and staff unions after this permission.
He emphasized how important educators are to the growth and change of the country.
Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB)
The Ministry is working in conjunction with the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), the National Commission for Colleges of Education (@NCCE), and the National Universities Commission (NUC) to successfully execute the dual mandate as the 2025 rollout draws near.
Institutions are going through significant administrative realignment, staff development, and curriculum reorganization to fulfill the requirements of this new system.
By allowing FCOEs to offer both NCE and Bachelor’s degrees, the dual mandate policy is not only a reform but a revolution in teacher preparation. “This initiative improves the quality of classroom instruction throughout Nigeria, expands access, and empowers institutions,” he stated.
Enhance Teacher Training
As part of our objective to enhance teacher training and improve education as a whole, we are moving forward with the revised Act governing our FCOEs,” Alausa said, highlighting the impact of the policy and pointing out that providing degrees within FCOEs gives educators the higher competencies they need to meet the changing demands of the education sector.
The National Certificate in Education (NCE)
The National Certificate in Education (NCE) and a Bachelor of Education degree can now be awarded by institutions thanks to this Act, which was ratified by the president in 2023.

National Universities Commission
With the Act’s implementation, all FCOEs that satisfy the National Universities Commission’s requirements can now function under the dual mandate.
Additionally, once the prerequisites are fulfilled, the Act guarantees that institutions can participate regardless of when they were established.
